Prince William covers a picturesque area of Northern Virginia, including the towns of Dumfries, Haymarket, Occoquan, and Quantico. There are many other smaller communities and census-designated places dotted across Prince William County’s attractive countryside. The county features two national parks and many other outdoor recreation areas—popular activities include boating and paddling on the Potomac River. Prince William County’s housing options include grand historic Colonials on spacious lots and newer single-family homes in peaceful residential communities.
Prince William’s retail destinations include the sprawling
Potomac Mills shopping mall. With 225 stores spread across five distinct areas, this is the largest outlet mall in Virginia. The county is also home to many craft beer breweries, wine tasting rooms, and distilleries.
The Steins, Vines and Moonshine Trail encompasses more than 20 of the county’s finest drinks purveyors.
Prince William Forest Park is the largest protected natural area in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Covering over 16,000 acres, this national park features 37 miles of hiking trails traversing scenery that preserves the East Coast landscape as it looked centuries ago.
Leesylvania State Park is the second of the county’s two national parks. Located on the banks of the Potomac in the southernmost part of the county, Leesylvania State Park is a popular destination for boating, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing.
The beautiful countryside of Prince William County features many other scenic areas for outdoor recreation, including the historic destination of
Manassas National Battlefield Park. Exhibits and preserved sites at the park commemorate two ferocious battles which were fought here during the Civil War.
The National Museum of the Marine Corps is another popular Prince William County attraction focusing on military history. Throughout the summer, the
Jiffy Lube Live amphitheater hosts outdoor concerts from some of the biggest names in music.
